On Saturday my wife and I attended the “Our Glorious Workplaces” event held, this year, at Syracuse University. An annual event benefiting the Onondaga Historical Association (on whose Board of Trustees I have sat since 2009), “Glorious” highlights the history of some of Central New York’s oldest and most respected companies and organizations.
The evening began with cocktails at Crouse College,
one of the earliest of the University’s buildings. John Crouse, a Syracuse banker and merchant, provided the funding for the College in 1887. The building’s architect, Archimedes Russell, designed the structure in the Romanesque-Revival style. Originally intended as a women’s college, the school served both men and women and now serves as the home for SU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. http://www.cnyhistory.org/workplaces.html
Dinner was served in the atrium of the Life Sciences building on College Place, one of the University’s newest buildings.
This year marked the 15th anniversary of “Glorious”. Previous events were held at L. & J.G. Stickley, King + King Architects, Centro, Anheuser Busch in Baldwinsville, and Syracuse China. Read more about the event and its history on the OHA website.
